Why is this happening?
If you're experiencing this, it's likely due to one of the following:
- The link you’ve published does not have the proper Open Graph tags. These specify the image that should be displayed on social networks.
- The website that owns the link is not fast enough.
How do I prevent this from happening in the future?
If you're sharing a link from a website you control
- Contact your web administrator.
- Your website admin should review the link to ensure your site is using the best Open Graph Markup practices. For more information, your website admin could use this Open Graph Markup best practice tip sheet other customers have been successful with.
- If you’ve confirmed that you have Open Graph tags in place, ask your website admin to check your site’s speed. Here is a tool that can be used to test speed: https://tools.pingdom.com/
- If you've confirmed Open Graph data, checked site speed, and are still not seeing the correct link image, ask your web administrator to look over this resource: About CoScheduleBot
Here are some additional tools you or your website administrator can use to further troubleshoot & optimize for the social images you would like to display when certain website links are shared across social networks.
If you're sharing a link from a website you don't control
In this case, you won't be able to control the social image that is used on the link you're sharing because the website admin for that website will need to update their Open Graph detail.
