Native Advertising:

An advertisement that fits in with the natural flow of the platform it is on. It matches the content, form, and function of the platform and promotes the subject in a non-intrusive way. Native advertising is also called sponsored content.

Alphabet Soup

There are three different kinds of native advertisements:

  1. In Feed – ads that blend in with and are integrated into the content
  2. Content Recommendation – ads displayed on the side of the content (ex: at the end of an article)
  3. Branded – unique content on a publisher’s website

The following example shows an “in feed” native advertisement. Buzzfeed partnered with Bumble to create content that was integrated into the regular content of its site. It’s non-intrusive and blends in well with the other Buzzfeed articles.

If not looking closely, a Buzzfeed user might not even register that the content was sponsored (and probably created) by Bumble. This is how businesses get their content in front of more viewers without them even realizing it.
